Originally created for New York City ballet but performed in this recording by Paris Opera Ballet, Jewels is a full-length abstract ballet in three parts. Each part sparkles with a different precious stone (emeralds, rubies and diamonds) and is performed to music by a different composer (Fauré, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky); the work is a lyric tribute to women and the capital cities of the great dance schools. Costumes, originally created by Barbara Karinska, are created here by Christian Lacroix as well as the set design.
